THE MYSTERY OF CONSUMING FIRE

The Scriptures speak of God with many names — Creator, Judge, Shepherd, Father, Lord, Almighty, Holy One, Ancient of Days. But there is one name that stands above the rest in its severity, its purity, its terror, and its beauty:“Our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:29)

This name is not metaphor. It is revelation. It is not symbol. It is essence. It is not poetry. It is truth. It is the unveiling of the God who burns away illusion, who purifies the heart, who judges wickedness, who reveals holiness, who consumes falsehood, who exposes reality, who divides light from darkness. To call God a consuming fire is to confess that He is not tame, not safe, not sentimental, not manageable, not reducible, not containable. He is the flame that reveals all things.
