SEMPER FI, DR. LANDRY
Just for fun - A tongue-in-cheek zombie apocalypse with a political distinctive.
Monday morning, third week of September. The first cold front of the season had arrived overnight, and the school still smelled like wet asphalt and cafeteria grease.
Suzanne was late. She had stayed up until 1 a.m. watching Jim’s band play an open-mic set at a coffeehouse that smelled like burnt espresso and hope. She was still humming the chorus of their new song when she pushed through the side entrance near the gym. The hallway was wrong.
Mrs. Delgado, the usually cheerful algebra teacher who wore cardigans with cats on them, stood in the middle of the corridor with her head tilted at an angle that necks were not designed for. Her eyes were milky. A thin string of drool hung from her lower lip. In her hand was what used to be Mr. Patel from the science department. Most of Mr. Patel, anyway.
